1. Lesson Plan Idea - “I’m Stronger Than…”

Ever since I started researching online regarding EPIK and teaching, I’ve come across many great lesson plan ideas from GETs who were generous enough to share what worked in their classes. So I’ve decided to collect them here.

    Grade: 6th
    Chapter: 10/11
    Number of Students: 15-30

Original Author: Maggie Charron from Facebook group: EPIK Orientation September 25-29, 2009

Write out the following phrases in a word processor and print them out:

    I’m stronger than….
    I’m faster than….
    I’m taller than….
    I’m older than….
    My hair is longer than….
    My feet are bigger than….
    My pencil is longer than…
    My eraser is bigger than….

Cut them out and place into an envelope.

Also print out a list of the names of your students. Cut them out and separate the names into groups or teams.  Place the names in an envelope, one per team/group.

During the activity, choose a random student and have them choose a sentence and a name of a student from the opposite team. The student reads the completed sentence aloud i.e. “I’m taller than … Mina.” That student and MIna must go to the front of them room and compare to determine who is taller. If the student is in fact taller than Mina, then their team gains a point, and if not, then they will not gain any points.

** For faster than, place two sets of colored pencils at the back of the room and have the students race to the back and retrieve a specified color and bring it back to the front. For stronger than, have them arm wrestle.**

The kids loved this game, they were disappointed when class ended and they had to stop playing.” - Maggie
